Break out your plaid, dust off those bagpipes and get ready to step dance! Yes, it’s that time again for the Annual Panama City Beach Scottish Festival. There’s something for everyone at this fun-filled family festival. You can join in as the festival celebrates 26 years and counting!

You can watch nationally and internationally ranked athletes compete in the Highland Games, dating all the way back to King Malcolm Ceanmore’s reign in 1057. Initially implemented to discover the “best of the best” choices for the military, these challenging games continue today to test and measure the athlete’s strength, skill, balance and endurance. There are four divisions that compete in stone-throwing, heavy and light weight distance throwing, the Scottish heavy hammer, the sheaf toss, weight over bar, and the centerpiece of the games, balancing the caber, which is a long section of a tree trunk. Grab a blanket and some chairs to watch men and women alike compete in this time-honored event. Tradition reigns here and age-old memories come alive!

Don’t miss the Pipe and Drum Bands at the Scottish Festival, which can best be seen at the Welcoming Ceremony and Parade of Tartans. If that’s not your groove, don’t fear, as the venue also includes Bagpipe Bands, Traditional Folk Music and Celtic Rock Bands, so there’s something for just about everyone. Irish Step Dancing, Rugby, a British Car Club show, a Border Collie and Sheep Herding Show, and a Celtic Kids Camp, which will round out the festivities for this Spring weekend.

Have you ever wondered what Scottish Clan you may be a descendant from? Several Scottish Clans will also be represented and will be sharing genealogy and clan information. The 2019 PCB Scottish Festival will be honoring Clan Wallace, so be on the lookout for the beautiful red, black, and yellow plaid clothing and of course, kilts.

Vendors will be selling a variety of Celtic merchandise at the Scottish Festival, comprising of gifts, clothing and even jewelry.  Scottish food will also be available from several restaurants, including sweets for the family like fudge, caramel, and snow cones.

So come on out to the Panama City Beach Scottish Festival on March 7th and bring the whole family for a fun filled beautiful spring weekend!
