There is always something new and exciting coming to Myrtle Beach by way of arts, entertainment, sports and recreation, restaurants, and more – and 2024 is no exception! Here is what is on our radar so far in January, so if you’re staying at the best resorts in Myrtle Beach, stay tuned and we’ll keep you updated on more as the year progresses.
PopStroke Myrtle Beach
1187 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach, SC
Projected to open in early 2024 within Broadway at the Beach near The Strand, the Tiger Woods-backed PopStroke will join the massive roster of mini golf courses in Myrtle Beach that makes it the “Mini Golf Capital of the World.” The innovative 10,000-square-foot venue will feature 36 putting holes (two 18-hole courses), an arcade, a play area, and a restaurant. Scoring at PopStroke will involve their electronic iPutt balls that transmit scores to the PopStroke app. TaylorMade is also a partner.
The Myrtle Beach Classic
Dunes Golf and Beach Club, 9000 N. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach
Another huge addition to the golf scene in 2024 is The Myrtle Beach Classic, the first PGA TOUR event in the city’s history. Sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach, the event has a four-year agreement and will be part of the PGA TOUR’s 2024 FedEx Cup regular season as a full-field additional event played the same week as a designated event, with a purse of $3.9 million and 300 FedEx Cup points awarded to the champion. It will be interesting to see who comes to play from the world stage of the pro golf circuit. The Myrtle Beach Classic is scheduled for May 9- 12, 2024 at the premier Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
Surfside Beach Fishing Pier
11 Ocean Blvd. South, Surfside Beach
The Surfside Beach Fishing Pier suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Matthew in October 2016, leaving behind 50 percent of its length. Since then, a new pier has been under construction, but several rounds of safety code violations over the years have set back the opening of the pier to the public. The next hopeful projected opening is sometime in the spring of 2024. Two vendors, Perry’s Bait and Tackle Shop and Drippy’s Ice Cream, have signed contracts to operate on the pier. A Request for Proposal has been sent out to garner interest in the remaining empty building, with the pier committee and Surfside Beach town council preferring that space to be for a food and beverage business.
Cherry Grove Pier
3500 N. Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach, SC
Another local pier victim that suffered hurricane damage recently is the Cherry Grove Pier to Hurricane Ian in September 2022. The fishing and walking pier, split in half thanks to Ian, remains closed as repairs continue, but the aim is to reopen in the spring of 2024. While the pier is closed for fishing or walking, the Cherry Grove Pier Tackle Shop is open daily, offering fishing products, gifts, and restroom access, as well as the Driftwood Restaurant and Bar, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.
New Slide at Myrtle Waves Water Park
3000 Mr. Joe White Ave., Myrtle Beach, SC
A new slide will debut at Myrtle Waves Water Park for the 2024 summer season. Located near The Atlantica, the original “H20 Racer” from the former Wild Water and Wheels Park (closed in 2022) in Surfside Beach was renamed and now stands as “Wild Water Races,” a four-person mat slide that allows park visitors to race down the slide together. It will be the first mat slide at Myrtle Waves.
Mura Restaurant, Bar and Café
1390 Farrow Pkwy., Ste. 3A-B, Myrtle Beach, SC
A new restaurant to The Market Common area dining scene in 2024 is Mura Restaurant, Bar and Café, which will focus on Korean-inspired small plates in a new shopping center across from Grand Park Athletic Complex. The small plates, such as milk bread, bibimbap rice bowls, Korean fried chicken, and chicken katsu sandwiches, will be served on a moving conveyor belt – the first of its kind in Myrtle Beach. In addition to their dine-in conveyor belt meals, Mura will also offer grab-and-go options, teas, coffees, and cocktails mixed with soju, a Korean liquor. “Mura” in Korean means, “Eat up and enjoy.”
Cantina Imperfecto
950 Cipriana Drive, Unit B8, Myrtle Beach, SC
Described as a high-end Mexican restaurant, Cantina Imperfecto is expected to open soon in the Grande Dunes area in the same shopping center as US Foods in the former location of Abundance Restaurant. The corner cantina has been completely renovated inside, and an outdoor patio has been added. Cantina Imperfecto owners also own Drift: A Coastal Eatery, open for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, and located at the other end of the shopping center.
Downtown Myrtle Beach Arts and Innovation District
This district, situated between Main Street, Broadway Street, 9th Avenue, and Oak Street in downtown Myrtle Beach, is continuing to experience much-needed revitalization in 2024 and beyond.
The renovation of the Broadway Theater at 811 Main St. dating back to 1938, one of three buildings owned by the City of Myrtle Beach proposed to be a 300-seat performing arts center. The space will also feature meeting rooms, a roof-top patio in the center, and separate lobbies that will be connected on the inside
The Tasting Room on 9th, a wine bar at 505 9th Ave. North owned by local chef Jamie Daskalis of Johnny D’s Waffles fame. The new spot will offer bar and lounge seating, an outdoor patio, a private dining room, a rotating wine list, wine flights, and craft cocktail menu, international bottled beer selections; chef-curated food menu pairings, like artisanal cheeses and local charcuterie, and regular wine-tasting events.
Additional shops and restaurants in the district that have either recently opened or are slated to open in 2024 include William H. Miller Studios and Fine Art, Long Bay Theatre 704, Carolina Improv Company, Lucid Candle, Good Vibes Surf and Skate, and Swig & Swine, a Charleston-based barbecue restaurant that will open on Broadway Street.
