Naturally you’ll be visiting the local beach but also check out the parks in the area and the boardwalk in Myrtle Beach. There are plenty of free and almost-free events in the area, you just have to search them out. From hiking and biking to fishing and beach volleyball, there’s plenty to keep you and kids active and busy while staying on budget.

If you’re here over April 27th go watch the Dragon Boat Festival for free. Teams of 20 paddlers and one drummer will race in the 5th Annual Ground Zero Dragon Boat Festival from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at The Market Common. Ground Zero focuses on providing teenagers with quality events, speakers and clubs in a safe environment. The festival will offer live entertainment, a family-fun zone plus plenty of food and drinks. An anticipated 55 plus boats will compete this year.

Another upcoming event is the Belin United Methodist Church Annual Blessing of the Inlet taking place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. This is an annual day long celebration of worship, entertainment, great food, family fun and arts & crafts. The “Blessing of the Inlet” ceremony will start at 11:30 a.m. Admission is free. The event, now in its 16th year, will be held at Belin United Methodist Church (4183 Hwy 17 Business) in Murrells Inlet. Call 843-651-5099 for more information.
