Located in the heart of Downtown Panama City, Florida, the Martin Theatre has been a pivotal entertainment feature in the community for over 80 years. First opening its doors as the “Ritz” in 1936, the Martin Theatre was originally part of a cinematic chain company based out of Columbus, Georgia before being bought out by the Martin family in the 1950s.
The theatre was temporarily vacant before the Downtown Panama City Improvement Board and the state stepped in and renovated the historical venue. Since reopening its doors again in 1990, the Martin Theatre events includes a variety of programming such as The Martin Theatre Presents series, movie series, and The Martin Ensemble series, and serves as a rental venue for plays, community events, and private parties.
Temporary Locations
Due to the building’s age and the devastation of Hurricane Michael, the Martin Theatre is currently operating at The Panama City Center for the ARTS located directly across the street until the iconic performing arts structure is rebuilt, while The Martin Theatre Presents series will be programmed at the Majestic Beach Resort in Panama City Beach. The community and tourists are promised that the theatre will keep its classic facade with renovations and once again brighten downtown with its neon lights.
