Countdown to the Holidays at Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles 2017
Nights of a Thousand Candles is a Brookgreen Gardens Christmas tradition. When Brookgreen Gardens decks the halls for the holidays, it encompasses 5,500 hand-lit candles and countless strings of lights that cover every tree branch, shrub, sculpture – and practically every blade of grass – of the National Historic Landmark in Murrells Inlet.
This year’s breathtaking spectacle takes place Nov. 30, Dec. 1-2, Dec. 7-9 and Dec. 14-17 from 3-10 p.m. You’ll want to stroll through the garden paths of Brookgreen Gardens Nights of a Thousand Candles, a picturesque winter wonderland that features photo-worthy light displays, including the 85-foot-tall centerpiece fir tree glowing with 100,000 lights. Not only are there sights to see, but also the sounds of seasonal music from under tents throughout Brookgreen, as well as eats and warm cider and wines to taste, with a Lowcountry-themed dinner served by Inlet Affairs in a large heated tent, cafeteria-style, each night from 3:30-9 p.m.
Purchase tickets for Nights of a Thousand Candles, Myrtle Beach, S.C., at www.brookgreen.org. Adults are $20 and children (ages 4-12) are $10.
Warm up after the festival with an extended stay at either of these cozy resorts nearby:
Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort
The majestic grounds of the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort are just south of Brookgreen Gardens near the sublime Pawleys Island area. Choose to stay in any of the one- through five-bedroom oceanfront condos, homes and fairway view villas. It may just be mild enough to play a round of golf on one of their three award-winning courses or a game of tennis on any of the resort’s courts. If not, book a spa day at their onsite day spa and wellness studio or recharge in the fitness center, which features a steam room and sauna, indoor pools, hot tubs and much more.
Crown Reef Resort and Waterpark
This resort, located on the south end of Myrtle Beach, has water park in its name for a reason, with an indoor water attraction open year-round featuring two oceanfront four-story water slides that will get the adrenaline pumping! Crown Reef just underwent a $7 million remodel last year, so the upgrades are stunning, including The Town Center Dining & Fun Zone, complete with the Loco Gecko Oceanfront Restaurant, Game On Arcade Zone, a coffee shop and an ice cream shop.
