Normally, the standout green in Destin, Florida, is from the coastal town’s emerald green Gulf waters, but on St. Patrick’s Day, Irish eyes will be smiling on the St. Patty’s Day Delight celebration that takes over The Village of Baytowne Wharf in nearby Sandestin along Miramar Beach.
The green day on Sunday, March 17, actually kicks off at night at 6 p.m. with live music from The Blenders, a Gulf Coast mainstay anchored in a mix of funk, soul, and rhythm and blues over the past decade. The four-piece band is led by vocalist/saxophone/guitarist Blane Butler and rounded out with keyboardist/vocalist Rocky Sleight, drummer Don Tucker and bassist Joe Long.
The festivities at one of Destin’s most popular St. Patrick’s Day events continue with an exciting performance by Drake School of Irish Dance at 7 p.m. The school will showcase their talent in several group and solo dances, proving why they’ve taken home more than 25 champion and 15 national qualifiers. The Blenders will then return to the stage to finish out the night.
But your family can continue reveling in the luck of the Irish by painting the town green throughout Baytowne Wharf, locating within Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, where the massive layout of shops, galleries and restaurants are offering St. Patty’s specials all night.
Baytowne Wharf isn’t the only hotspot for St. Patty’s Day events in Destin. Before the St. Patty’s Day Delight event, stop by Harborwalk Village with the kids for their St. Paddy’s Day Family Party from noon to 2 p.m. Highlights include a live performance by the Carpenter Academy of Irish Dance, kids’ crafts and a Leprechaun Treasure Hunt.
And no St. Patty’s Day is complete without a sit-down meal at McGuire’s Irish Pub within Destin Harbor, where you can not only get your fill of an Emerald Isle serving of corned beef and cabbage, but also join in the celebration that starts at 10 a.m. Cheers to green beer, bag pipes and entertainment by Pete O’Dea, Austin Jennings, A Drunker Shade O’Green, Horseshoe Kitty and DJ Zoran.
