What’s New in Myrtle Beach for 2023?
The Grand Strand is buzzing with excitement for the new year and ready to welcome visitors near and far. This year will bring in new restaurants, exciting construction projects, attractions, and so much more. Here are just a few things you can expect to find on your next trip to the Myrtle Beach resorts area!
Sloth Valley at Ripley’s Aquarium Myrtle Beach
The sloths are slooooowly making their way to Myrtle Beach. Ripley’s Aquarium, located just a few blocks away from The Breakers Resort, announced that they’ll be opening Sloth Valley in late spring of 2023 that will showcase two-toed sloths. They’re giving visitors and in-depth look at this unique species and the forests where they live. Also coming to the aquarium is a Discovery Center with interactive play stations and a new play structure.
Swig & Swine
A Charleston-based BBQ restaurant is opening its first location in Downtown Myrtle Beach this year. Just a few blocks away from The Bay View on the Boardwalk, Swig and Swine owner and pitmaster Anthony DiBernardo announced that they’re bringing their famous food to the 500 block of Broadway Street later this year. The restaurant was named a Top 50 BBQ Joint by Southern Living Magazine and this will be its first location outside of the Charleston area.
Blue Drum
Blue Drum is a brand-new seafood restaurant that’s opening in March 2023. It’s located on the Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach and will serve fresh seafood and creative cocktails with plenty of outdoor seating. Public boat docks will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The address is 4436 Kingsport Road in North Myrtle Beach.
Stars and Strikes Getaway-n-Play
There’s a new bowling and entertainment center opening in Myrtle Beach in February 2023. Stars and Strikes Getaway-n-Play will offer traditional bowling lanes, arcade games, axe throwing, laser tag, and much more. They’re located at 600 Coastal Grand Circle at the Coastal Grand Mall.
Completion of Surfside Pier
Hurricane Matthew slammed the Surfside Pier in 2016 wreaking havoc on the structure whose history dates back to 1953 and will finally reopen to the public sometime in March 2023. The renovated pier will be 814 feet long and 36 feet wide along the last 83 feet of the pier. It will have stairs, an elevator, and a ramp for easy access. There will be several spots for businesses to open later in the year.
Cherry Grove Pier Construction
The Cherry Grove Pier was torn into two pieces as Hurricane Ian hit the North Myrtle Beach coast in September of 2022. Materials are being delivered and the rebuilding process has begun. The operations manager stated that he’s hoping for a fully-functional pier by early May if all goes as planned.
The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar Moves
Crazy Mason is moving to a stand-alone location at the Coastal Grand Mall later this year. They began inside 810 Bowling at The Market Common and lines were consistently out the door to try their crazy concoctions. The new location will be located at 2461 Coastal Grand Circle in Myrtle Beach.
World’s Strongest Man Competition Comes to Myrtle Beach
Myrtle Beach will play host to the World’s Strongest Man competition that’s been running since 1977. The event is set to take place April 18-23, 2023 at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place near the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Contestants perform several Strongman events throughout the weekend to see who will take home the big prize and be named “World’s Strongest Man.”
SurfWorks Surf Park
SurfWorks has still not come up with final plans but it’s worth mentioning as it will be the first attraction of its kind in the Myrtle Beach area. The complex will be perfect for those who want to learn to surf when conditions in the Atlantic aren’t quite right. SurfWorks Myrtle Beach will have a surf lagoon, viewing pier, playground, volleyball courts and more! The venue will be located near the Myrtle Beach Sports Center and Broadway at the Beach.
Lake View Commons Shopping & Dining Complex
A new shopping center is being built at the corner of Highway 17 and 9th Avenue South in North Myrtle Beach, which is just a short drive from Atlantic Dunes. Phase one will open in the Spring of 2023 with the addition of 900 Prime Steakhouse which is being opened by the owners of SeaBlue Restaurant and Wine Bar.
World War II Memorial
Plans to build a World War II Memorial at Warbird Park at The Market Common are being finalized after a meeting in January where the general public gave their opinions. The photo was just the first proposed rendering of the memorial.
New Town Dog Park
New Town Bark Park opened in Central Myrtle Beach to dogs big and small. The park is located at 3rd Ave. South and Collins Street and has separate off-leash zones for small dogs and large dogs. Bring your furry friends down to the beach and enjoy another great dog park!
